All names have meanings they represent and Ghanaian names and specifically Ewe names are not an exception.  You will be enlightened on some of these Ewe names and their various meanings. In fact, this article gives you an idea of what some Ewe names mean. Names are like organic components of the people per the people's beliefs.    We believe that individuals become the name they are given and for this reason, names are chosen carefully before being given to individuals. Some of the names are just given to show the day of the week a person is born whereas some show the circumstances around a person's birth. Below are some nam...

What informs your choice of breakfast?

Some folks love to consume very light foods for breakfast whilst others want heavy meals. These different choices and taste of individuals in terms of what food to eat depends definitely on something whether it is a personal desire or a systemic choice. Talking about this matter of what food one consumes as breakfast has got a lot of interesting things to learn and note. One man said that he considers his food as medicine which means that whatever he eats, the first thought is about what he wants to derive from a particular meal.

This is a short story of Torgbui who is a middle-aged man. He farms, weaves, fishes, and also does some other jobs as he is a very hardworking person who does not like laziness in any form. Before he goes to the farm, it is either he eats akple which is prepared by his wife or any other heavy food but the favorite meal for the morning is usually akple or banku. According to his reason for this choice, eating something heavy like akple in the morning gives much or enough energy for work and once eaten, there is no need to bother about eating but just drinking water. However, he switches the menu and takes porridge in the morning as he also considers variety in consumption of food as  necessary step to take to ensure good health.

For many I know who eat akple, waakye, beans, rice, etc in the morning, you get to know that it is a way many use to avoid too many expenses for a well-balanced breakfast meal. For some people, once a food like beans, boiled cassava and even rice is taken in the morning, they do not bother to eat until evening when they are back from work. A choice that is considered economical because no street food is bought which might even result in complications if not prepared under the right conditions. It is better to cook and eat from home than always patronizing street meals.

What is your choice of food for breakfast?
Is it TEA?
A carpenter friend loves to eat something for breakfast before going out for work and mostly his choice of food is either porridge, tea or akple. When he is to take tea, the water for preparing the tea has to be very plenty. This is what most people normally call Tea... with a prolonged vowel sound 'E'. The reason being that a tea should have not too much water with active ingredients like milk, milo, sugar, toasted bread and more. He says that after taking tea with prepared with a lot of water, he gets the energy he wants that keeps him at work tirelessly until it is time for lunch. An after experience he also shared is that after taking the tea, he sweats showing him a sign of an active blood activity. It is obvious that in one way or the other, the choices are very dependent on some viable reasons.

Tea and accompaniments for breakfast
A breakfast set ready. A flask of hot water, bread, milk, hot tea in a cup with vapor. Whether the choice is tea in the morning or any other food, something determines what it is one should eat.

Meet Yaw whose picture is not shown here. He works in a press and for him anything for breakfast goes depending on what food is available.

Rice balls or motuo with groundnut soup

Before going out for work one morning, Yaw was eating rice balls which was left the previous day with a ball of banku and groundnut soup. For him eating a heavy food in the morning at times makes him too satisfied as if he has eaten too much. Due to this, he likes to prepare porridge early in the morning for his breakfast before going to work. Whether it is rice, tea or porridge available he does not worry or think too far, but makes his choice so fast to know which one to go with to start the day.

SIGNIFICANCE OF BREAKFAST

After sleep, one wakes up early in the morning and needs energy for the day's job. Apparently, the energy has to be derived from food and to keep the body active and vibrant something delicious and balanced has to be taken. This also explains why some elderly people say that it is better to eat in the morning and skip an evening meal because the day's work requires energy but sleeping doesn't ...
A saying that brought about the slogan: 1-0-0 is better than 0-0-1. This means that if a person is to eat once a day, it is better to eat in the morning and skip lunch and dinner than skip breakfast, and lunch and take supper. By the way, it is just a saying or a person's view.

One relative had been saying that the bile secrets the juice for digestion and when it does on an empty stomach it is bad and can result in a kind of ulcer or stomach wall being affected in a way hence there has to be food in there to receive the bile for digestion; a reason why this person advises at least something for a meal as breakfast.

If you are somebody who loves to enjoy a variety of dishes to start the day and would want to explore some kinds of foods to cook just in your home, try these simple-to-prepare meals.
