In the Ghanaian community and bringing it down to the Ewes, names are specifically given for different reasons. The main reason why names among this tribe are never taken for granted is that the names normally have a direct impact on the bearers. Names are given for a reason since they reflect or have an influence on the people to whom they are given. All names have meanings they represent and Ghanaian names and specifically Ewe names are not an exception.  You will be enlightened on some of these Ewe names and their various meanings. In fact, this article gives you an idea of what some Ewe names mean. Names are like organic components of the people per the people's beliefs.    We believe that individuals become the name they are given and for this reason, names are chosen carefully before being given to individuals. Some of the names are just given to show the day of the week a person is born whereas some show the circumstances around a person's birth. Below are some nam...

He slept too early while still hungry. This happened!

Artistic touch of a picture

It is quiet an interesting thing this young man experienced but it could or it is actually an experience for others as well. Whether shared or kept secret, it is what it is

Just after tedious work on the farm, this guy though felt the need to find some supper to refresh his body, decided to just sleep because his mood that evening was not good. All because a little disagreement arose in the house between him and his guardian. He decided to play the hard guy game. Well, hunger does not know what is mood and I guess neither does the body care about that. Nourishment for the body is required for maximum performance in whatever the body engages in. After sleeping without eating in the evening, it wasn't even up to an hour but the person awoke and was having difficulty in sleeping. The guy resides in the village and belongs to a family of middle income and was able to afford a cement building with aluminum roofing sheets. It is hard to find a ceiling in most of the rooms in the village so their room did not have a ceiling. Most of the buildings were either from coconut tree branches or mud roofed with thatch.

After he has awoken, he started to count the planks of wood used in roofing the room. The reason for doing this is strange but serious considering the fact that he had no other option but to do so. He was awake and finding it difficult to sleep. All because he was hungry but decided to ignore and sleep due to the disagreement that arose in the house. After turning right, left, right, left and being unable to sleep, he now decided to find something to eat.

Surprisingly, it was after he had eaten some food left in the kitchen that he was able to sleep. This brings up the question in the mind of people whether energy is needed to sleep. Whatever the answer or the reality might be, a number of people express their thoughts on this particular thing. A doctor was educating one time and advised it is not good to eat too heavy late in the evening since the food might not be well digested and the energy too will not be used.

In the village, when children misbehave and escape punishment, the parents at times decide to beat them in the stomach. This means that they will be prevented from eating to make them know of their wrong and it is a form of punishment used in the village. Parents who are strict make sure when they say something like this, it is done so that their wards learn a lesson to grow morally upright.

As the days went by, anytime a child misbehaved and the mother especially said 'You will count the roofing planks!', the children began to think differently. It is because, they will be made to sleep hungry and even when they wake up in the middle of the night, they won't be given in order for them to learn obedience.

When a person sleeps hungry, he or she is most likely to find sleep difficult but when a person sleeps after over satisfaction, he or she dreams strange dreams. The reality of these is peculiar to a person but children when they eat too much in the night, get to urinate on the bed.

A young boy slept one night and urinated on the bed. In the morning, the father asked him why he urinated on the bed. His answer was that he thought he was around a bush.  When asleep he actually dreamt and narrated it to the father. In his dream he was walking with a friend and felt to urinate not realizing he was on bed. After urinating, his under became wet before he realized something was going on.
