Johnny Broke The Siege. Story with an all lifetime lesson

Image
Jonny was only five years old when he lost his father Agbeli Dzidepo. The mother’s name is Asinyo Esinam, a woman of value but unfortunately financially handicapped. Even before Mrs Esi lost her husband, life has not been easy for this household even though her husband was a teacher in Living Academy Preparatory School. Johnny was a handsome and a respectful boy who took exactly after his father’s good moral. His parents were very particular about his moral upbringing and his growth academically. Unlike children who turn out to be a disappointment even when their parents work tirelessly for their upkeep, his attitude was different. At home, he is the type that would run errands for the mother and made sure he reads his notes after and before school. Johnny learnt a very common saying one day which gingers him to aspire higher even as a child. “Reading makes the man“ and “Practice makes man perfect.“ He never went a day without saying this after his morning devotion with the mother

What will you remember about the year 2023?

Image
The year 2023 has been a year with many happenings both positive and negative alike. For some, it is a year of fulfilment where set goals were achieved whilst others it is the beginning of greater achievements or the setting up of foundations. However it is described, one thing everyone gives thanks for the most is the gift of life. As the Bible says in Ecclesiastes 9:4, ( Anyone who is among the living has hope - even a live dog is better off than a dead lion ). Gratitude must be given to God for His protection throughout the year in all things. Regardless of how events turned out, there is still a cause to give gratitude to the Giver of all good things. Global There were a number of events that unfolded in 2023 globally of which some were positive occurrences and others too the other way. Talk of the wars, natural disasters, hunger in some parts of the world, etc. Some of the events resulted in the death of many humans and Ghana's Christian Atsu also lost his life due to an eart

SOMETUTUZA - A festival celebrated by the people of Some

Image
The history of the Ewes is a one that holds very interesting lessons and facts which up to this day continues to teach many lessons. As history recounts, the cruel treatment of Torgbui Agorkorli forced the mothers and fathers of the land to flee to their current locations. A part of the Ewes called Someawo have their settlement in Agbozume and her neighboring towns and villages.   Sometutuza is a festival particularly celebrated by the people of Some in the town of Agbozume and her associated communities. As in every other festival, the motive is to use moments of such a prestigious celebration to foster unity and developmental projects in the community. It has been almost two decades that this festival has not been celebrated due to some issues. Nonetheless, the chiefs and the people identified how pivotal the celebration is in the development of the community and so decided to make it happen again. The members of the community were also very much excited and welcomed the move with

Foods I surprisingly came across in Kumasi. The whole story

Image
Kumasi, the second largest city in Ghana also called Kumerica is a very wonderful place to be based on many factors. First of all, saying Kumasi is a city describes how busy the region can be with all sorts of business activities. At some place like Kejetia market, the place is busy 24/7 with commercial activities such that at times sales in the evening is even more vibrant than daytime. It looks a bit exaggerated but it is the reality of what it is. It is a place you would want to visit and also tell your own version of the story after witnessing for yourself what the city holds.  Well, definitely, once you are at someplace, the foods of that town have to be tried because you definitely might not find all your local hometown meals there and even if there are some, not how you want them. The year 2023 has almost ended and coming 2024, you can look out for the foods you will find in this comprehensive writing and try them out for yourself. ETOR The first time I tried this food was in

Some Senior High School(SOSEC) - Tso Nakle | Arise and shine

Image
In the Volta Region, many secondary and technical schools are doing their very best to produce the best of students who become useful to mother Ghana. SOME SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL known in short as SOSEC or also called SOME SHS is located in Agbozume-Sukladzi in the Volta Region of Ghana. It is located along the Denu-Akatsi road just about a few minutes walk from the tarred road. The school has produced several professionals in many fields like health, banking, art, teaching, manufacturing and many more.  This is the logo or crest of SOME SHS About SOME SHS in brief The school was established as a private institution but was later adopted into the public school system many years back. The slogan or mantra of the school is ARISE AND SHINE. This translated into the local language Ewe is TSO NAKLE . It is a call on every one of her students to rise and shine wherever they are to uplift the good name of the school. The crest shows an illustration of a sun rising. It is a vivid depiction of wha

Korkli dzogbor | A porridge prepared from corn dough

Image
Maize is used to prepare different kinds of breakfast foods specifically referring to porridge. We can talk of oblayo, korklui, katsa and more. This porridge is one of a kind that I can assure you is cultural-centric. I have travelled to places like Accra, Kumasi but haven't come across this porridge anywhere but in my hometown in the Agbozume, it is sold in  community. A lot of people also love to prepare it at home as that cuts on expenses and the kids are able to enjoy more as it is prepared plenty in the house. In fact, it can be taken at anytime of the day. It is found in the Volta Region among the Ewes. To get it prepared, you only need a wooden sieve (made from palm branches), corn dough, sugar and salt.  You can get corn dough for purchase in the market. I know many households in Ghana love to grind corn dough for storage in the house because it is a better way of cutting on too much expenses of food. If your house is one of such, you don't have to worry about buying fr

Having homesickness while away at school? Interesting experiences about homesickness

Image
Young children who are starting school at their very early ages cry whenever they are taken to school. The reason is simple, they want to stay with dad and mum at home as that gives them much joy. School is one place to make friends and mingle with all manner of people who come from different families and locations.  This writing explains and expresses some thoughts on homesickness on the part of students, signs noticeable in the behavior of one who is homesick and how to manage it.  NB: This content is not from an expert in a field like PSYCHOLOGY but based on true experiences noticed from observing a number of students from different levels of education. First of all, HOMESICKNESS is a strong desire or wish to return home while away from home (maybe at work, vacation, school etc) Why would somebody who has gone to college or the university feel homesick? A number of factors are responsible for this. Deprivation of parent's love Individuals with responsible parents are who show
