Johnny Broke The Siege. Story with an all lifetime lesson

Image
Jonny was only five years old when he lost his father Agbeli Dzidepo. The mother’s name is Asinyo Esinam, a woman of value but unfortunately financially handicapped. Even before Mrs Esi lost her husband, life has not been easy for this household even though her husband was a teacher in Living Academy Preparatory School. Johnny was a handsome and a respectful boy who took exactly after his father’s good moral. His parents were very particular about his moral upbringing and his growth academically. Unlike children who turn out to be a disappointment even when their parents work tirelessly for their upkeep, his attitude was different. At home, he is the type that would run errands for the mother and made sure he reads his notes after and before school. Johnny learnt a very common saying one day which gingers him to aspire higher even as a child. “Reading makes the man“ and “Practice makes man perfect.“ He never went a day without saying this after his morning devotion with the mother

PERSPECTIVE DRAWING

PERSPECTIVE DRAWING: A way of representing 3D forms on a 2D surface to be realistic as their real form. Doing such a thing is impossible to do if one does not learn and adhere to the underlying principles that govern how one can achieve this. Perspective is used in a whole lot of digital media that we are very much interested in because of the wonderful effects we tend to perceive from them. Imagine the designers behind the scene working tirelessly to achieve this never adhering to principles that govern perspective. It would be very hard to come by. Anyone who wants to represent realistically three-dimensional objects on a two-dimensional surface must learn some basic principles that will be pillars to guide. Executing illustrative works require knowledge of perspective for proper output.

Perception which is the interpretation of the stimuli or sensations we receive from the sense organs plays a very crucial role here. Observation is keen and seeing objects as being derived or made up from simple shapes actually helps to simplify complicated structures so that they can be well represented.

FEW NOTES ON PERSPECTIVE
  1. Objects near the station point appear bigger, longer, and rich in colors. For instance, a huge tree will be seen very small when one looks at it from a very far distance. Why do aeroplanes appear small in the sky when they are huge?
  2. The station point is where an observer stands to take a view of a place or object.
  3. Objects in the background appear smaller and faint in color richness. Such feeling is perceived due to the distance between the observer and the objects.
  4. Eye level: This refers to a person's level of view in respect to the eyes. Views can be made from above eye level, below eye level and on eye level.
  5. Horizon: The point where the sky appears to meet the ground. With careful observation of the drawing below, it can be seen that the sky appears to meet the trees at a point, that is horizon.

In the drawing above, the type of perspective shown is called the One-Point Perspective. It is called so because only one vanishing point has been used to draw the trees and the road. Critically observing the image above reveals that all the trees, cars, and the road appear to meet at a point; that is where the vanishing point is. The vanishing point is where the objects appear to be disappearing or escaping from our view.

Objects near the foreground are large and diminish as they get closer to the vanishing point.

The two-point perspective technique has been used here to realistically depict this building. Can you see the lighting in the drawing? This is what adds to the realism we try to portray in our illustrations. One who understands how shadows of objects are cast very well can make good illustration that looks realistic. Therefore careful observation of the things we have in the environment is also a major step to learning lighting in objects to aid to in illustrating their true form.
Clearly, the house appears to be 3D-like due to the application of perspective knowledge.

The same house in pencil has been converted into an illustration. It takes up a form that makes it look real. Indeed, the careful application of perspective ideas is crucial for achieving great peaks in design and illustration.

Interior perspective

Perspective is everywhere because it is an illusion of distance. In this classroom that is enclosed, a careful look at the picture shows some kind of depth in here, and some objects like the desks have been foreshortened including the humans. It would be difficult to represent such a scene like this without the use of perspective. Therefore study into perspective and its behavior or effect on the look of objects is necessary for excellent works in the digital age or media.

 Two-point perspective

A poor man's house is drawn with absolute realism that the form of the various objects is perceived by our senses especially the eyes and the brain. The difference between form and shape is that shape is two-dimensional and form is three-dimensional. One thing that makes a form have three dimensions is the accompanying shadows and highlights. They are very much needed to add realism to your figures. Can you figure the size of the objects in the drawing in relation to distance? This is what makes it possible to draw correctly to depict what we see and not what we think.

Finally, explore the environment and learn features that the many natural and artificial things around us possess and try representing them on a two-dimensional surface. Making use of their basic properties helps you get their representation right. Knowing about the construction of perspective grids and lines also aids in easy representation of objects or environments on a 2D surface accurately. Perspective is an integral part of drawing or illustration which needs to be revered with all importance for the work t look real.
