Music is one very significant and vibrant elemental component of the Ewe culture and very integral in traditional performances as well as modern functions and gatherings. Agbadza
It is one of the forms of dances of the Ewes and goes along with its related songs and has its origin traced to the times or war. It is performed by opening and closing the upper limbs which specifically is the arms and hands in a rhythmic fashion against the body as the legs are moved in a synchronizing manner. Others dance agbadza with intense energy whilst others do it slowly with cheerfulness. But it is a dance that requires a level of energy to perform. The agbadza dance happens to be a cultural dance identified with the Ewes in Ghana and also parts of Togo, Benin and other neighboring countries probably.
Other dance forms they are known for is kpanlogo, borborbor etc.
Dancing agbadza is a great way of exercising as it requires much energy and it will interest you to know that it is one of warrior dances in the culture for the brave.
The dance is performed both at traditional gatherings and in Christian gatherings as well. Agbadza songs speak on a variety of topics that teach and proclaim various lessons.
How agbadza is performed
At occasions, the folks usually dress in traditional kente clothes where the clothes are tied around the waist for males and females will usually cover their bodies from the upper torso making sure to tightly cover the breast region down to below the knee with the clothes.
