Ewe name for twins

Culturally and according to some beliefs, twins are regarded among many ethnic groups in Ghana as special human beings. The reasons can make a long list and when we take it from the perspective of Biology, it is a miracle and a wonder to marvel at. From the mere fact that twins are biologically special and when they happen to be alike it is a whole wonder. As you move along reading this article, you will get to learn a few things you may not have heard about twins and who they are perceived.

Twins in Ewe Language


Twins are called ''EVENɔVI' in the Ewe Language. Twins, as born from the same mother have a lot of things in common and even most especially like twins.

Male - male twins
When the twins happen to be both males, they are called: Atsu and Ets3. The elderly is 'Atsu' and 'Ets3' the younger. 

Male - female twins
When the twins are a male and a female, the male is known as 'Atsu' and the female 'AtsuƑi'. Either of them can be the eldest and this might not affect the order of the names.

Female -female twins
If instances where the twins both happen to be females, the elder is known as 'Eɣi' and the younger 'Etsa'. 

From the traditional setting they are regarded as having some kind of relation with the spiritual making them not just like anybody else. Twins like to look alike whether in dressing or any other area sometimes not by intentionality but that is what it appears to be. Watching twins walk, live and do all kinds of things in unison is one thing so amazing to gaze at.
