Creating the 12-point color wheel remains one of the basic exercises elementary school children do considering how significant the exercise can be in educating a person to understand color. Doing this entails knowing the categories of color that are found on the color wheel. These categories are the primary colors, secondary colors and tertiary colors. The total of primary colors on the wheel is three(3), total of secondary colors also three(3) and the total of tertiary colors six(6).
More about color scheme
It is important to understand what the primary colors are because the other colors that are formed are from the base primary colors.
Generally, we have the addictive primary colors and the subtractive primary colors.
The addictive colors are also known as the primaries of light that are perceived by the human eye. They are red, green, blue and commonly known as RGB.
The other category known as subtractive primaries is divided into two.
They are:
- Printer primaries (cyan, magenta, yellow)
- Artist's primaries (red, yellow, blue)
The three categories of the primary colors are shown above
To create the 12-point color wheel, we must have a full circle whose total angle is 360deg. The circle is supposed to be divided into 12 equal parts with each having an angle of 30degrees. Once the circle is created and the divisions made, the primary colors have to be inserted. The primary used for the color wheel is ARTIST's PRIMARIES which are the red, yellow, blue (CYB).
Insert the primaries with three divisions in between each as shown in the diagram.
Insertion of the three artist's primary colors in the 12-point color wheel. Note the number of segments of divisions between the colors.
The secondary colors which are formed by combination of the primary colors in equal proportion are then inserted with one segment left in between.
The formation
Red + Yellow = Orange
Yellow + Blue = Green
Blue + Red = Violet

The last thing to do is to put in the tertiary colors as shown in the diagram below. Following this procedure in creating the color wheel is a great way to quickly create it if not the fastest way.
