The history of the Ewes is a one that holds very interesting lessons and facts which up to this day continues to teach many lessons. As history recounts, the cruel treatment of Torgbui Agorkorli forced the mothers and fathers of the land to flee to their current locations. A part of the Ewes called Someawo have their settlement in Agbozume and her neighboring towns and villages.
Sometutuza is a festival particularly celebrated by the people of Some in the town of Agbozume and her associated communities. As in every other festival, the motive is to use moments of such a prestigious celebration to foster unity and developmental projects in the community. It has been almost two decades that this festival has not been celebrated due to some issues. Nonetheless, the chiefs and the people identified how pivotal the celebration is in the development of the community and so decided to make it happen again. The members of the community were also very much excited and welcomed the move with all the energy they have got.
In the later part of 2023, the Some Traditional Council under the authority of the Paramount Chief, Torgbiga Adama III - Makorsor of Some, organized SOMETUTUZA 2023.
The THEME for the celebration is UNITING ALL OF SOME FOR HER TOTAL DEVELOPMENT.
Meaning of SOMETUTUZA . It is in the Ewe language and when translated into the English Language, it means a festival for building Some. The theme for the celebration also reinforces development as the core of the celebration.
How it was celebrated in 2023
A number of activities were undertaken and participation by the community members was very massive since it has been a long awaited moment for the people.
The festival was between 11th - 28th November, 2023.
Saturday 11th November, 2023
- Reconciliation rites(Nugbuidodo) - The location was throughout Some but especially Agbozume.
This reconciliation rite according to the traditional belief is to reunite fractions of people not in good terms with one another to forgive and unite for the betterment of the community.
Monday 13th November, 2023
- Visit to tourist sites in Some - Locations were Keta, Agavedzi, Nogokpo, Dzenunyekpodzi.
- Mini memorial durbar | It was held at Agavedzi.
Tuesday 14th November, 2023
- Unity torch relay - Location was throughout Some towns and villages
Wednesday 15th November, 2023
- Football, volleyball, handball etc. - SOSEC AND THREESEC
Some Senior High School(SOSEC) has a very good football field and the match was hosted there.- Ludo, cards, atidada, etc - Location was forecourt of Makorsor palace Agbozume
One of the renowned games of the Ewes is called atidada and it is very interesting to engage in.

Kente weaving is one craft that the people of Agbozume are known for. Thousands of the populace knows how to creatively weave kente cloths and it has been the business of many families for so long a time.

The symbol of Agbozume is a ram with a tree growing from the horn.

The grand durbar had very prominent people in attendance to grace the occasion. Hon. Maxwell Lagudor - M.C.E Ketu South Municipality, Former President John Dramani Mahama, Hon. Dzifa Abla Gomashie - Member of Parliament for Ketu South Constituency, Hon. Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey - General Secretary NDC(National Democratic Congress) among many others. The presence of these distinguished guests at the occasion showed a sign of how concerned they are about the development of the community.
The youth remains the pillar of the celebration and so on the 9th of December, 2023, a thank you health walk was organized. Side attraction was kenkey party and free drinks among musical activities. Indeed the elders and stakeholders belief greater achievements are ahead and this is just a step to moving the town higher.
