Have you ever written a message to a loved one with some floral or aesthetic features for a birthday or good wishes? If you have done this before, then you have knowledge of what a greeting card is and what this card is normally used for. Many years ago, cards like birthday cards, greetings cards and other good wishes cards were either in pencil or painted but the situation today is totally different. I take you on an expedition to look and get some information with examples of some card designs made in pencil by some art students some years ago in 2017.
What is a greeting card?
A greeting card is a nicely decorated card with texts and images or graphics that carries a message to be sent or delivered to someone. Greeting cards were a means to send messages to loved ones because it makes it possible to add some decorative features to a message thereby enhancing the look of the whole thing placing emphasis on how the receiver of the message is dearly loved.
The card design
To design a greeting card, an art student for instance has a need for which this is to be done and this might be a commissioned or personal work. First, the text to be written is noted with the graphical element to feature on the work. With the student that produced the pencil work below which is a greeting card, he is very strict on getting measurements right so before he starts the design, he first gets the measurement correctly done for a good layout. After this, the drawing commences and not just a drawing but a one of high quality with finishing shading techniques.
This card carries the message; "EVERY CHILD NEEDS A GENTLE HAND, TO GUIDE THEM AS THEY GROW". "SO WALK ALONGSIDE ME, DAD, WE HAVE A LONG WAY TO GO".
The message of a card like this carries so much a message more than you can imagine and careful observation of the drawing shows a hand of a father and that of a child to complement the texts on the card. Graphic Design communicates with available media in an effective way to enhance proper flow and dissemination of information. Now to preserve the work, the student framed the paperwork and this gives it a more durable form.
It is not always about the colors for an artwork to look nice but rather the understanding and effective use of the available resources is what really does it all.
Greeting card
Here is another card design by another student that makes use of red and black pen for a more durable stroke as compared to the pencil. The first thing to catch attention in this is the drawing which propels the whole message. The writing is quiet a lengthy one and it is even hard to see though.
Greeting card
There are many wonderful designs of greeting cards out there done in pencil but the value they carry is not a thing to play with knowing the fact that it is the value that is needed.
Interestingly enough, some art students I know really made some money from their colleagues by designing cards for them and it was a cool way of earning from their skills. The current revolution in the creation of these designs has added much value for which reason even if a person is able to design with a pencil or in paint, he or she has to also make up the mind to incorporate current advancements in the working process.
