The type of foot wear used in this process is a sandals as shown in the image above but the process can still be used for shoes and other foot wears; the only thing to make you successful at it is to be somehow creative bearing in mind how you want to do the mending. Observing this sandals, the mending is not going to be that hectic so all we want to do is to cobble to hold the part of the sandal detached from the sole back into contact with the sole.

Initial stage of piercing with awl
First act of the cobbling process

Take the awl and pierce it through the leather of the sandals all the way through the sole of the sandals. Remember, all that we are doing is to hold them together firmly but when piercing look at a suitable spot and proceed the subsequent ones too in that line so that everything looks nicely aligned.

Use the awl to hook the thread you have cut which is at the end of the awl. With the thread in the mouth of the awl, pull out the awl.

Initial stage of passing the threads through
Passing the threads through after piercing a hole with the awl

You should now have the thread at both ends of the sandals as demonstrated above. This one is only for the first piercing and so we proceed to pierce to the right in order to pull out the thread at the opposite side in a form like 'U'. After bring out the thread at the opposite side in this form, you have to pass the thread near you through the 'U-like one.'

The hooking and stretching process
Passing the thread through the 'U-like end'

As shown above, you should have something like this; so now we just hold the middle of the threads at both ends and then stretch to hold the things firmly.

We are going to repeat the process of penetration with the awl and hooking it with the thread towards a direction such that we sew to cover the entire region of the sandals that is torn.

Note: The whole process looks the same like how a sewing machine sews, thus the mechanism undergone by the threads which hold the garments together.

Repaired sandal
Finished work

Wow, as you progress, this is what you should be seeing and careful observation should make you recognize how the repairing is being done such that the threads are in a line. This is actually what makes the whole thing nice and artistic so you must pay close attention to it to have a nice work done.

When the entire region we are cobbling is covered, we now have to tie the thread into a knot and light the matches to burn the tip of the knotted thread into another knot. This act prevents the knot from untying where the thread might easily remove from the sandals.

Mostly when a new shoe is bought and you want to prolong its lifespan knowing that you do not trust  how it has been glued, you can just use this process to go round the whole shoe and it really helps to maintain that aim of prolonging the lifespan.
