About two years after I had bought a laptop which was a used one, it started developing an issue. The problem was that during that time, when I boot the computer it takes longer time to boot. Little did I know that there was an issue with the hard disk inside the computer. Eventually, it doesn't boot or start any longer and it got me worried. I tried communicating the issue with some friends with IT expertise but because they were afar all these diagnosis didn't solve the problem.
A decision was then made and the laptop was taken to a repairer to check what exactly the issue was. Thorough check revealed that the hard disk had a fault and would need a replacement. Replacing the disk with a new one so everything could work properly again wasn't the concern but there was a rather major concern.
Will the stored files be retrievable?
This was the question I asked the technician because there were some important files I couldn't afford to lose. However, some of the files and folders were retrieved and the others lost. Obviously, the drive had an issue which affected some of the files but this could have been prevented.
What did I do wrong?
The mistake on my side was the negligence of having a backup storage like an external hard drive, pen drive or even a cloud storage to secure important files. For me, I didn't expect such a thing to happen so I never planned for it but the experience made me change that notion.
Interestingly, after this incidence, about a year later, the same issue repeated itself and because I didn't learn from the first happening I paid dearly for it. This time around all my files on the drive were lost and a new drive was then replaced with the faulty one. Cloud storage has even made backing up of important documents easy and you cannot afford to stay and watch unexpected incidences like this affect you negatively. This in a nutshell means that no one must be too lazy to have a backup storage. Especially for those who deal with client documents that cost lots of money, it will be a tremendous loss if a preventive measure as mentioned earlier is not taken.
In conclusion, it is just amazing to always have a backup storage for important files so in case the expected happens, you don't fall a victim.
